Why You Need Physical Activity To Be Productive

Maybe one of your excuses for not doing any physical activity is because you don’t have the time.
But what if I told you that physical activity is good for productivity?
Yes, you read it right!
If you want to get stuff done in your life, you better include some gym time in your schedule.
It may sound crazy, but it’s not absurd at all.
You can benefit a lot from adding some physical activity to your already packed routine.
Don’t believe me? Let me show you why!
Physical activity increases energy levels
I’m not breaking any news to you by saying that physical activity is good for your health.
And while the connection may not be so obvious to everyone, just that is more enough reason to start exercising for productivity.
When you are well, you can keep up with your appointments and responsibilities, whereas you can hardly do the minimum when you’re sick.
But there’s even more to it.
When you don’t get enough physical activity on a regular basis, you have weak muscles and less endurance.
You find it harder to keep up with long workdays and demanding projects.
Notice that it doesn’t mean you won’t do your work at all. However, it’s not without the cost of damaging your well-being.
When you don’t have energy, you create a snowball effect of inefficient to yourself.
It happens through:
- Not sleeping enough.
- Skipping meals.
- Drinking too much coffee, etc.
But these are topics for the next weeks…
For today, remember that you need the extra energy from physical activity to perform.
Physical activity sharpens your focus
When are you more productive: when you are asleep or when you are laser-focused?
Laser-focused, of course!
The same way that distractions get in the way of efficiency, concentration is key to accomplish more.
Now take into consideration that physical activity raises your focus for two or three hours afterwards.
Not only you have more energy because of your workouts, but you are more alert, as well.
Inefficiency is frequently caused by distractions.
When you are unable to keep your thoughts in check, tasks take longer, and you get less done by the end of the day.
That doesn’t sound productive, does it?
Physical activity helps with sleep
After years away from the gym, one thing forced me back.
It wasn’t looking good naked, participating in fitness competitions, or getting into sports.
Of course that they’re valid reasons, but my personal number one was: sleep.
I was always so pumped and stressed I wasn’t able to get a restful night sleep, for months!
My brain was exhausted yet, I was never able to recover.
Studies show that physical activity is excellent to sleep easier and I’m a living proof of that.
And when you can sleep well, you have more energy.
When you have more energy, guess what? You’re more productive!
