WELCOME TO A FAR AWAY REALM
Over the past months, our team at Lava Labs has been working incredibly hard on developing our first title. We’re beyond thankful for all the support we have already received from our community to date, helping us to create an even better experience for everyone. Today, we’re extremely excited to officially share with you some of the latest updates on A Far Away Realm — what the game is all about, some of the lore, characters and their backstories, and some gameplay elements.
WHAT IS AFAR?
AFAR is a unique third-person platform game, accessible through PC or browser, that combines elements of arcade and shooter gameplay with blockchain technology. Players get to build, create and compete against each other — in 4-minute battles of 4 rounds, each consisting of a mix of obstacle courses and shooting elements, Afarians race to the finish line: the next spaceship leaving the planet.
Our mission with AFAR is to make complex blockchain technology accessible through fun in-game features, even to players who are not very familiar with the crypto space or who have no idea what an NFT is. A Far Away Realm, the universe and its characters will be freely accessible to everyone. Beyond that, players can choose to strategically invest in the game in multiple ways, through cosmetic features or other ways of virtual ownership.
THE STORY BEHIND AFAR!
A Far Away Realm takes place in a distant galaxy, where a group of courageous heroes competes in a galactic tournament that rewards the winning “AFARian” with a precious prize — among other items also EGGs that, when hatched, contain cosmetic items and other valuable resources.
Contestants race to the finish line, shooting, avoiding traps and navigating around obstacles through multiple rounds with increasing stakes. The battlefield: a gigantic spaceship, the TORUS. You and your hero board the TORUS and participate in the tournaments, as the ship travels between different community-owned planets.
Over time, as you compete in more races and start making a name for yourself, your reputation level will increase, allowing you to unlock additional perks for your hero. Overall, AFAR offers you an abundance of possibilities to create your own world and enticing ways to obtain ownership of it — all following extremely fair, strictly non-pay-to-win core gameplay mechanics.
INTRODUCING YOUR HEROES
Are you curious to find out more about the brave heroes who will compete on the TORUS in the race to the finish line? Don’t worry, we got you!
In AFAR, players can pick one out of six main AFARians to compete as. We have already introduced TORO, DIDI and RAFA to our community, and the rest of the roster will follow soon.
RAFA is a true explorer, on a quest to discover every corner of the galaxy and identify new species for the academy back home. RAFA is extremely curious — a character trait that has gotten him into trouble a lot more than he would admit — and has probably run from more boulders, jumped over more carnivorous plants, or fallen into more booby traps than any of the other heroes.
Players can customize RAFA, as well as the rest of the gang that we will continue introducing bit by bit, via skins and lots of other cosmetic items that our artists here at Lava Labs have put their heart into designing. Skins in AFAR are NFTs, opening a whole new, revolutionary path for players to exercise ownership over their in-game items.
IT’S ALL ABOUT THE EGGS!
At launch, AFAR will come with a fun and intuitive play-to-earn mining minigame. This minigame represents the primary way for players to obtain the precious EGGs, containing cosmetic game items and other resources that enable participation in further parts of the game’s economy.
To participate, players and their hero of choice must travel to other planets, where they build their own mining camps, select land to mine on and use their pets to retrieve EGGs and other resources. These resources can be refined at the Central HUB into either fuel or building crystal before taking them off-world or used to improve or expand the mining operation.
The mining minigame is an essential activity to the game and is the source of all value and delivery of cosmetic items to the community — we can’t wait for you to give it a try!
Having worked exceptionally hard to make AFAR a special experience, the entire Lava Labs team is extremely excited to share this first glimpse into the game with the world. Make no mistake — we have a stream of exciting updates still to come!
