Character Spotlight: Merlin
Merlin is known as the greatest wizard who ever lived, but few know his true origins. He’s a private man who refuses to discuss his past. All signs indicate that this is the same Merlin who inspired the stories of Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, though many question whether his story actually began in England. Merlin came to Time’s End long ago. His arrival predates pretty much anyone else, even Einstein. Whatever the case, Merlin serves as Evermore’s Chronomancer trainer… instructing a new generation in the art of magical warfare. For though some wonder where he came from, none question his devotion to Evermore and its mission.
Merlin is easily the most feared professor at Evermore — the one students hope they don’t get. He’s an intense man with piercing eyes and an aura of mystery. Merlin has a dizzying intellect coupled with a marked impatience, making life miserable for all but the most brilliant pupils.
One obvious question among students is how a seemingly fictional character can even exist. Were the legends true? Or is this Merlin from some alternate reality? It also brings into question magic itself. Is magic real? Or is it, as Arthur C. Clarke once put it, that any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic? Merlin seems disinclined to answer these mysteries.
