When I read Talia’s piece about Yelp I thought “This is a fantastic writer, and good for her.” That they raised the pay and gave more benefits speaks volumes. For those who are critical, I think it’s probably humongously challenging to live without emotional support and with a troubled maternal past such as she has. She is a survivor and I wish her the best. As far as New York, maybe not the best choice money-wise but she is trusting her instincts and they will tell her when it’s time to move on. Like another poster, I also recommend the Midwest for the lower cost of living and the surprisingly artsy vibe in some communities (think college town).
