I am making 135 KCHF per year. That was my current salary. How about you? And you? The more we speak out, the less inequality there will be. Any person doing my job with my experience should get the same money, regardless of race, sex, age or preferred football team. End of the story. But it is not like that. It is not.
I am also a 42 years old developer. I also began my career in 1997. I am a white male and yet I am just making less than a third of what you make…
135 KCHF (123 k€) is maybe equivalent to 65k€ in France (Switzerland salaries are 1,9 times higher) but it is hard to compare : cost of life is not the same especially health spending, housing, food…So I’d better say that I make 60% of what you make.
In my country (France), 39k€ is an average salary for 6–10 years experienced PHP developer in Paris. I talk about gross salary (the real revenue you earn is around 29 k€). For more experienced developer on more demanded skills like mobile, you can get 80 k€ gross (60 k€ net) if you are an expert / architect.
In France, it is not really a well paid job compared to other for people above 40, except if you are a brilliant developer in a good company. There are also a lot of inequalities, depending on the sector, the company, the job itself, your gender or ethnic origin but also your charism and your ability to obtain more and more from you boss.
