Dear Philip:

You went through some trouble explaining who you are when it really wasn’t necessary as I remember you from our track camp. I say that in a positive way as you were a good man at our track camp, and I’m sure with your sincere interest in running, you will continue to improve to become a very fine runner.

Phil, as you may or may not know, we do have a number of runners in the University of Oregon track program, but certainly if you wanted to attend the University of Oregon as a walk-on, you would be more than welcome to be a candidate for our track team. If you’re looking for a scholarship, you’re in trouble as we have only 14 scholarships and most of our scholarships are spead out among 26 people who have to be competitive at the Pac-10 and NCAA level.

That is not to say that you would not make the improvement to somewhere along the way, by the time you are a junior or a senior, to be achieving at the level where you could be getting a scholarship.

At any rate, if you are interested in the University of Oregon as a walk-on, we would be more than happy to have you and I could send you some additional materials if you are interested.

In the meanwhile, all the very best in your training preparations and for any competition you might have.

Sincerely,

Bill Dellinger
Head Track Coach
