MY LIFE IN DATA — Project #1
Visualizing Data
September 3rd 2018

For my first data visualization project I wanted to capture some statistics that represent who I am today. The process included making a Google Sheets file where I decided to narrow down my whole life into four concrete sections. I focused on states that I’ve visited, countries that I’ve traveled to, schools that I’ve attended, and companies that I’ve worked for. In my digital file I found that over the course of my 20 year lifespan the following occured:
States:
Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey Delaware, Florida, California, Nevada, Texas, Montana, Louisiana, Michigan, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Massachusetts, Conneticut, and Maryland
Countries:
United States, Isreal, India, United Kingdom, Belgium, Panama, Spain, France, Ireland, and Scotland
Schools:
Lane Montessori, Wayne Elementary School, Radnor Middle School, Episcopal Academy, Radnor High School, and The New School (Parsons / Lang)
Companies:
Bananna Republic, OneLovePhilly (Comcast / JA), SoulCycle, Jennifer O’Rourke Election Committee, Casper, Roc Nation, and Museum of Ice Cream
After compiling the data I did some more research to figure out how much I have explored in comparison to the maximum potential. For example: I visited 18/50 states, 10/195 countries, attended 6/132,000+ schools in the U.S, and have worked for 7/30,000,000 companies in the U.S.
I greatly enjoyed getting to visualize this data and interpret it as I saw fit. I’m excited to see the progression over the course of the semester and develop new tools and software to further advance my capabilities.
