Leaning and Expecting

Tonight I blow-dried my nieces hair as she cried because she missed her daddy who has been at a new job for 2 weeks in another state. Talk about gut wrenching.

I started thinking about about how we all lean on something or someone. It can be a good lean, like a daughter relying on her loving father to hold her and comfort her when she’s had a rough day. Or the leaning could be bad, like a man overwhelmed with stress and pressure turning to relying on alcohol in order to numb the pain and carry the responsibility away.

The most important part of deciding on whom or on what you lean upon is setting your expectations for the response to your lean. For example: if you lean on alcohol because you expect it to make your problems disappear then you will continually wake up hungover and disappointed and headed down a path of abuse and over indulgence.

However, if you lean on your Father and expect him to comfort you in times of hurt, provide for you in times of need, and lead you when you feel lost, then you will forever be joyful, fulfilled, and confident.

I hope and pray that you lean on the One that will always meet your expectations.
