Talk about a straw man!

The key element is intent. I never said it is only genocidal if Hamas or someone succeeds in killing everyone. And yes, genocide is absolute. You can expand it a bit to include completely destroying a people culturally, but the intent for complete destruction is essential. It's in both legal and normal English definitions.

Gaza will be rebuilt in some form. Ideally under a non-Islamic, democratic government of some kind.

The old families who have ruled over gaza for centuries are still there. They are terrified of Hamas, but still there. Here is a great insight into how the society works:

Israel's intent is obvious and simple:

* Destroy Hamas as a ruling/military entity

* Get the hostages back

As soon as that is done, the war is over. No intent to displace, kill or whatever all 2.2M Gazans, or all 7M+ Palestinians.
