Learn how to easily create your own NFT project based on our family’s experience. Design your NFT, deploy the smart contract and create your own minting website following some easy steps.

Even though my mum is not famous, she is a great artist for me. For decades she has been painting beautiful teddybears for every newborn in the family and her paintings have been proudly hanging on the walls of all our family members’ homes.

As I first heard of NFTs at the end of 2021, I thought it would be a great idea to start a project involving three generations in my family, my mum, my children and me to learn more about this very popular topic. We started thinking together how could we create a NFT collection with 10.000 teddybears that would stay in the blockchain forever. Instead of hanging on the walls of other family members, we thought it would be a great present for newborns and small children in the era of web 3.0.

In this article I will be explaining all the steps we have done, from A to Z from the design phase to the algorithmic generation of 10.000 bears, the creation of the website and the minting process in an easy way so that everyone can easily follow the steps and create their own NFT.

Design your NFT

In our case we, used a teddybear as our basic design. Below you can see some of the paintings my mum has done during the last couple of decades. In order for them to work more easily as an NFT, we of course had to modify the theme.

In order to do that we made use of Adobe Illustrator, it is very easy to scan, import and digitize almost any image in a short period of time, my children decided which traits to design, my mum did the drawing and I digitalized them in Illustrator. I recommend to create one layer for each trait that you want to create and a group for each variant. Once you have it organized that way, you will need to create one folder for each trait and save each trait variant as a separate file.

As you can see below, the final image is the superposition of all the layers. Some of them will always stay the same, some will change for each NFT.

Now that we have every layer and every trait ready, we have To generate 10.000 Teddybears and of course we cannot do it manually. We will be using python for that.
