But I believe the changes are greater. One example I missed was Tesla’s suspension software update after their battery fire problems in 2013.

Ship your product with certain physical capabilities and continuously enhance it with software. That model is being beautifully executed by Tesla as one of the first better-known companies.

That is what modern-thinking established OEMs in the manufacturing and logistics industry are looking for. They want to offer remote monitoring, then predictive maintenance, maybe pay-per-use models with their products. And they are struggling, for many different reasons, the details of which would take up another post ;)

But they are a-changin’ — faster than one would think.
