Review: I purchased this book after visiting the Man Flow Yoga website (through a an external link I got from somewhere). The book offered a no-frills, all-body workout that could be incorporated into a workout routine. I was looking for new poses, so I gave this book a try.Pros: The book turned out to be very helpful. It featured very detailed instructions for each of the 32 postures along with a description of target muscles and photograph usually taken from two different angles (to see the posture better). This is a helpful feature I don’t see in a lot of yoga books and testament to the author’s background in exercise science and sports.There were many postures I had never tried before, such as Squat Hold or Cat-Cow. For the ones I did know, this book provided greater detail which helped me gain greater understanding of how to move my body. The sequencing section provides ready-made sequences for quick use.Cons: I was expecting more content here on how to build a yoga sequence. I also would have preferred the instructions on how long to hold a position was measured in breaths, not seconds. For me, it is just easier to count breaths.Recommendation: Although billed as a book for yoga practitioners of all ages, I believe this book would work best for someone (man or woman) who has already done some yoga, but wants to a tougher workout. The poses and sequences are strenuous enough to compete with any other kind of workout you can do.

Review: As a Yoga practitioner, Yoga teacher, and weight lifter, I’ve struggled with some Yoga poses and needed modifications that would work for my body type. Dean Pohlman has managed to write a book that shows how to correctly execute poses and has provided modifications that do not lose the integrity of the original poses. Yoga is exploding and it is rare to find teachers who understand the complexities of working with men, male anatomy and musculature. Pohlman writes in an easy-to-understand style that speaks directly to Yogis at all levels. He has been careful with tone and verbage, providing knowledge that both beginners through advanced Yogis can appreciate without feeling overwhelmed or patronized. I am impressed with the photos throughout the book showing beautiful — and more importantly — correct poses and asanas. Review: I first encountered Dean’s Man Flow Yoga on you tube. For nearly a year I’ve enjoyed his regular video posts using them for in-home practice. Dean brings an enthusiasm and simplicity to Yoga that makes it accessible to all. For him, yoga is a pursuit of personal physical challenge more than a dive into personal inquiry, and his approach has many benefits. For one, his explanations are succinct, and his dialogue is focused on what the practitioner feels in his body rather than the more complex issues of what one might feel in their mind. Second, Dean’s style never leaves you thinking, “What am I missing here? I must not be good enough for yoga.” Because he is straightforward, Dean’s teaching is encouraging and inclusive of all. I attended one of his multi-day yoga retreats in 2014 and was very impressed with the man I got to know there. His new book provides a wonderful reference for the core poses he teaches. It will be a trusted reference for anyone interested in yoga for beginners, but I encourage you not to stop there. Check out his videos online and get to know the man behind the advice. For ladies and guys, you’ll find a teacher who builds you up and is pretty fun to look at too. :)

Review: This book is a good resource for those curious about yoga and for those who are avid yoga enthusiasts. Dean is a great example for yogis and non-yogis everywhere. His image clearly proves that yoga is not just for women or typical yogis. Any man or woman can begin yoga not only to gain flexibility but for muscle gain and health benefits. Yoga Basics For Men has great descriptions of each pose with modifications and images. Get it while it’s free and pass it on to friends!

Review: Now let me make one thing clear: I personally will never use yoga to find enlightenment or attune myself spiritually. Nothing against those who do, but it’s not my path.That being said, this a a great, practical guide to yoga. It’s especially useful for those of us who really just want the flexibility and Strength training and not the philosophy. I really liked the section about building sequences, since occasionally I can’t find a video or guide that really fits my needs/wants that particular day. This means That I can plan a yoga session to the music I want. Or focusing on the body part I want.It’s a great book for customizing your practice to your needs, whether you’re an office worker, a football player, an MMA fighter, or anywhere in between.

Review: I am not one to frequent a yoga studio due to a demanding work and travel schedule, so I am very grateful to have Yoga Basics to influence my sessions. This is a well-written guide with plentifully detailed poses of varying difficulty. This e-book is a must have for the beginner, the athlete looking to enhance his/her on-field performance, and anyone looking to improve their current level of physical fitness at any time of the day.I’ve followed Dean and practiced his customized routines for six months, and I’ve been extremely satisfied with the results. I look forward to my daily flows, whereas I once dreaded going to the gym. Man Flow Yoga has alleviated my back pain (largely from sitting at a desk) and encouraged me to adopt an overall healthier lifestyle. I will recommend this to anyone interested in getting into yoga.
