This response seems hyperbolic to me. It appears that the main gripe is that Wood did not spend enough time elaborating on the interpretationist portions of the Muslim community that reject ISIS literalism. I suspect that if Wood were confronted with that claim, he would likely say “Yeah, my bad. I should have included a few paragraphs that cover that. Sorry.” It doesn’t invalidate the rest of his piece and it certainly doesn’t mean he’s doing PR for ISIS. I mean, he calls them monstrous barbarians in the article several times.
