CS373 Fall 2018: Paul Purifoy
Blog: Week of 27 Aug — 2 Sep

What did you do this past week?
This past week I went to my first classes of the semester and basically got back into the swing of things at college. I looked for friends in my new classes, met with professors and teaching assistants, and bought all my textbooks (at least the ones that were in stock). I also got to hang out and catch up with my friends who I hadn’t seen all summer.
What’s in your way?
Summer 2019, I really want to get an internship so I’m tackling sample interview questions to prepare for the upcoming career fair in the fall. I have high hopes for this interview season and I’m excited to meet new companies for potential career opportunities.
What will you do next week?
This next week I expect classes to start picking up the pace with the lectures so I’m preparing myself to keep up with the course material. Also, I plan to meet more people in my classes to make study groups and have extra help with questions on assignments and concepts.
What are your expectations of the class?
I expect this class to challenging but that just means that there is a lot to learn. The Socratic style of lecture is interesting and will take some getting used to but it definitely makes class more engaging and keeps you on your toes.
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
My tip-of-the-week is “make sure that you’re completely enrolled in your classes”. I joined CS 373 after the second day of this semester and this class showed up on my canvas dashboard so I thought I was set for the year. Then my friend asked me to see my blog which I had no idea was due Sunday let alone even knew it was assigned. After I joined Piazza, the first post I see is a thread of all the blogs posted, which is why my tip of the week is that you make sure that you have enrolled in all of your classes, which includes Canvas, Piazza, iClicker or any other sites of the like to keep up with what is going on in the class.
