I see a lot of ‘back tracking’ from previous TGLO’s statements. I would be more charitable, and say ‘clarifications’, but the earlier presentations were deeply alarming, and made clear statements about wanting to highlight the long life of the abandoned Spanish Mission over the short life of the Alamo fortress and the battle for Texas independence.
‘Re-Imagining’ is always a code-word for rewriting history to mesh with more contemporary tastes.

I support re-establishing (“recapturing”… very clever) the original footprint.
I do not support moving the Cenotaph.
I do support re-routing traffic around the footprint.
I do not support a vision to recreate Mission San Jose at Alamo Plaza.

I’m unsure if the original tagline came from John Wayne’s movies, or from Lon Tinkle, but the TGLO would be wise to recapture this as well: “The mission that became a fortress. The fortress that became a shrine.”
