Here’s irony: the truth is that I have little time or interest in rap and hip hop, for a variety of reasons, yet I agree that the performance by A Tribe Called Qwest was the divergent moment at the Grammy’s.

Without falling into the trap of damning with faint praise, the pertinent observation is that this was the only perfomrance that was brave enough to present its message with tact and skill, but without nuance. My point is that they made no attempt to soften the stance or the point to make it more palatable to the vanilla Grammy’s community. They just said what they had to say, with some skill.
