I have driven all over Appalachia and other places in my travels. We tend to drive a lot of places. When you drive, you get to meet all kinds of people if you try.
I do not think the problems of rural, poor America are dissimilar from the problems of urban poor America. I also think the government programs designed to help them mostly hurt, which is unfortunate.
What a tremendous story. Would love a sequel about going home again. It’s hard to go back, but it grounds you in many ways.
