How much is too much television viewing for your child? After all, it’s educational, she can learn new things, and it keeps her busy, right?

WELL, NO. There’s much more to this issue.

Many children watch far too much TV and it has negative consequences in many ways.

In some homes, the TV is on from the time your child gets up in the morning until she goes to bed at night and a child who is watching this much television is not getting any healthy exercise, is not using her imagination, and is not interacting with anyone else.

What he is getting is mindless stimulation that will wind him up, shorten his attention span, and give him all sorts of ideas that you would rather that he not have. And this is not just exposure to bad language or violence but the ads that will promote unhealthy foods that he will want and toys that he will beg for.

Even if the TV is on and no one is watching it, as is the case in many homes, it adds to the noise level and general confusion, especially when commercials come on and the volume magically rises to high levels.
