People, data and money — in that order — are your most important campaign assets. Surprised that money comes third? Fundraising is, of course, absolutely essential for any startup campaign. However, while it’s possible to “bootstrap” a campaign with limited resources, you cannot compensate for a lack of people power or supporter data. Value these resources accordingly, and identify your team’s weakest points early in the campaign. For our campaign, a lack of supporter data from previous canvassing efforts and elections was a significant gap that prevented us from working quickly and efficiently.
