Biology
Basculin is a green aquatic Pokémon that has three different forms. The bodies of the Red- and Blue-Striped Forms are identical. They have a green, ovoid body that tapers to a trapezoidal tail fin at the back. A strong black stripe runs from their mouth to their tail, and they have a white dorsal fin with four spike-like protrusions. Their lower jaw protrudes ahead of their upper jaw, and they have a slight depression around the corners of their mouth. Both varieties feature three black spots behind their pectoral fins on both sides of their bodies.
The fundamental distinction between the three Basculin types is the color of the stripe that divides the black and green on their bodies. Basculins all have three fins, one on top of their body ahead of the tail fin, one below the body ahead of the tail fin, and two side fins. The Red-Striped Form features tridents-like jagged fins, while the Blue-Striped Form has smooth fins all around. The Red-Striped Form’s eyes are round and red, while the Blue-Striped Form’s eyes are narrower and blue.
Red- and Blue-Striped Basculin are exceedingly antagonistic, particularly against their polar opposite. They usually start battling over territory right away. On rare situations, one form may swim with the school of the other. Pokémon other than Corphish and Crawdaunt run when a school of Basculin emerges in a lake. Basculin has been dubbed “the lake’s thug” on several occasions. Basculin eats everything in its path with its jaws. Despite their fearsome reputation, they succumb to stronger species. Humans ingest basculin, which is regarded quite tasty. The Blue-Striped Form is a popular food source with a mild, light taste. The Red-Striped Form was formerly often seen on dinner plates, and it is now increasingly popular among young people. The Red-Striped Form’s flesh is known to be fatty. Basculin is a popular Pokémon that fisherman like battling while fishing, and owing to their abundance, they often release them back into the lake illegally. It competes for food with Carvanha.
White-Striped Basculin looks identical to the other two types of Basculin in Hisui. Despite its name, the stripes above its eyes, as well as its irises, are a very mild shade of light blue. It has smoother pectoral fins than Blue-Striped Basculin, but they are bigger. Its dorsal fins are spiky and it has big eyes, like Red-Striped Basculin. Its lower jaw is smaller than that of Red- or Blue-Striped Basculin, and both its lower and upper jaws have frontal beak-like protrusions. Technically, White-Striped Basculin is considered a regional form owing to similarities in what qualifies as one.
White-Striped Basculin, on the other hand, is renowned to be mild. The voyage upstream is typically dangerous for the species, and many die. As a consequence, the spirits of dead White-Striped Basculin are often left behind in the waters of Hisui. When a wounded White-Striped Basculin survives, it may join forces with the spirits to accomplish the rare transformation into Basculegion.
