It is my way of trying to vent as it is yours. I have said elsewhere, I love America, I love her ideals. I make no apologies for that and would defend her with my life. However, sometimes, like a parent with a child, I may not like her at the moment. Even now, I am more upset with the press and media and politicians than anything else. They know, or should know, the truth, but they ignore it and spin it to meet their own power needs.
A little of the rage is directed to the national attention deficient disorder we suffer from. One person who dies unnecessarily due to police brutality or accident is one too many. We, as a nation, should always strive for a zero deficient standard there. Is it attainable? No, nothing man ever creates or builds will ever be perfect, nor will every decision by people in that organization always be perfect, but we have to try. We have to be mature and know when discipline and punishment are needed, and when understanding and training may be needed.
I really wish people could see and feel through another persons eyes. I wish those that are so angry with police officers, could temper that to those police that truly deserve it. I wish they could see what my friends who are both Black AND Police tell me. They know that they are more likely to be killed by other Blacks, then by whites.
I wish more people would understand that combat life and death decisions are not measured in minutes, it is a heartbeat, a single breath. Real life is not like a movie. There may be no last gasp or words goodbye, no lingering. Just gone. The difference between death and going home to your family at the end of the shift could hang on a split second. Last night two retired police officers, who were working as Baliffs, were shot dead because a criminal got a deputy’s weapon and killed them in the blink of an eye. A few months ago, a disgruntled SSgt went into his commander’s office and pulled a weapon and shot him dead. Life and death within a second. Only Hollywood is clean.
