Grandma’s Advice

Don’t work for Google.

A few years ago, I was unemployed and working on startup ideas. While visiting my now 93-year-old grandma, she wanted to know why I didn’t just work for a big company.

Grandma: Why don’t you find a job?

Me: I could always get a job at Google.

Grandma: What is this Google?

Me: They’re a big company that makes software.

Grandma: Like IBM?

Me: Well, no.

Grandma: So they compete with IBM? What do they do?

Me: They organize the world’s information and make it instantly available.

Grandma: That sounds boring. Don’t do that.

And so, I didn’t go work for Google. Thanks Grandma.
