Do you really want to know why there’s no SwanQueen on your TV? This is why. And it’s not pretty.

For the past three seasons, I have tried to explain to my fellow SwanQueen shippers the various reasons why the possibility of that hoped for romance may not happen on our favorite show, ABC’s Once Upon A Time.

I've mentioned that ABC is owned by the Walt Disney Company, and that not only many of it’s trademark characters but some of the company’s corporate avatars are featured as characters on than show, and that Disney really has corporate OCD when it comes to said characters and avatars. I've also mentioned that, to my knowledge, there are very few romantic, passionate, kiss-with-tongue LGBT relationships on cable before 8pm Eastern, and non on broadcast. None.

The fact of the matter is that America is still a chronically homophobic/erotophobic country. The advances this country has taken towards marriage equality were not voted for, but imposed by judges, just like many of the civil rights cases of the 60's. And like those cases, a great number of people, possibly the majority were opposed.

And though many have come out as non-hetrosexual to great acceptance to friends, family, co-workers, and business partners, the sad fact that many situations are like that of Daniel Pierce.

Daniel is 20. He lives in Georgia. Last October, he told his Stepmom and Dad that he was gay. Dad said nothing, Stepmom seemed to accept it. Bu the next day, things played out like an SQ fic where Snow was dragging Emma to Blue to see if they can break whatever spell Regina had on Em that would make her fall in love with the Evil Queen. Only it was much, much worse.

The video below was posted by gay advice columnist and advocate Dan Savage on Seattle alternative media. There have been over 700,000 hits since was posted. Apparently, Daniel had his smartphone camera running and caught this.

Caution, there’s violence, rough language, and beaucoups of bigotry

And to sell SwanQueen, we have to sell that to people like this. People like Daniel’s parents.

Good luck.
