How To Make A Perfect Low Poly Gradient
In this tutorial I’ll describe how you can create your perfect low poly gradient with PolyGen. You can download the app for free from http://www.polygenapp.com . The article is directed to both new users and those already familiar with the app. If you like colourful patterns, take a look at the techniques below.
Random pattern
Open the app, tap “Abstract Colors” and proceed without changing any options. You’ll find yourself looking at a random pattern. When you tap on the “Refresh” button (lower left corner) another random pattern will appear.
Lock your favourite attributes
Once you spot your favourite color (or color effect, or any other attribute), you can “Lock” it. Go to the menu (upper left button) and press the small lock icon next to that attribute. Any further press of the “Refresh” button will leave that attribute unchanged.
Reorder the colors
Drag the handler near the color name to quickly reorder the pattern’s colors.
Position the colors carefully
Color position does matter and will be reflected in the resulting gradient. If you place two colors at the opposite ends of the list, you’ll see a smooth gradient. If you move one of the colors to the middle, the gradient will adapt and become narrower.
Understand the Color Effects
The “Color Effect” attribute can significantly change the pattern’s mood. Compare how the end result varies if you pick different values. Below are, from left to right: “None”, “Diversify” and “Darken”.
Experiment on your own
It’s much easier to learn these and more in practice. If you don’t have PolyGen yet, get it from www.polygenapp.com. And if you do, open the app and start creating pretty low poly designs!
