An afternoon in the park with 杜可風 — Christopher Doyle — Shanghai, 2021

On a sunny mid-autumn afternoon in Shanghai, Christopher Doyle — 杜可風, which translates as: “Mr Du, Like The Wind” — was enjoying the atmosphere in the pocket park on 永嘉路(Yongjia road). The master filmmaker — acclaimed for his cinematography, directing, acting, writing, and art — finally had taken a day off following a flurry of activity: giving a lecture at the Shanghai Theather Academy, and seeing his most recent work, Love After Love (第一炉香), directed by 許鞍華 — Ann Hui, released in China.

On the Run — How to Leave Body Fat in the Dust

I always have been a relatively fit person — over the years I took part in crossfit, jiujitsu, and strength training. I never focused on fat loss per se because it never had been a problem. And then came 2020, the pandemic, and an awful lot of beer. And let’s…

Shanghai street style, autumn-winter 2021 collection

I’m a huge fan of street style pictures. You know, stuff like The Sartorialist — which I all remember from I think back in 2007 or 08. Below follows my attempt at this style, all taken in the autumn and winter of 2021, in Shanghai.

Modelling distributed locking in TLA+

One of my favorite writer on distributed systems lore is Martin Kleppmann. His lectures on the topic are, in my opinion, some the best introductory material available. I’ve also enjoyed reading, and more importantly, re-reading, his article “How to do distributed locking”. As I am currently learning TLA+, it suddenly…
