You are 100% correct. I believe many startups focus too much on marketing and sales when first starting. How about building something customers actually want?
Companies should first focus on their product, until it is solid then move on to marketing, sales and everything else.
If you’re backed by millions and can take care of every department at the same time, go figure! But never ever forget the product.
