Understanding The Struggle

A certain commenter decided to really go to town and try to pick apart every piece of my writing. At first I was going to reply to each one of his comments with a rebuttal, but that’s what he wants. I’ll say this instead.

People who are dismissive of others when they raise their hands and cry foul or attempt to highlight an injustice are the main people I want to reach out to.

If a woman came to me and said she was raped, there are certain things I would never ask her. Things like “What were you wearing?” or “Did you look at him provocatively?” That would be grossly insensitive and insulting at the least. My duty would be to determine how to get her the help she needs and to be an ally.

Conversely, if I tell you that my reality in this country is different, and that my people and culture live differenly based on our skin color, your response shouldn’t be to pick apart my evidence. There are enough of us crying out saying the same thing, which should be plenty evidence. We need allys. You don’t have to understand fully what the plight is, just know that one exists. Most blacks in this nation are ready to reach accross the isle to our white American bretheren to figure out how to solve this problem.
