Loop of the Internet: Are You Blessed Or Cursed?
Okay! This one is real.
Ages ago, I decided to give up on my laziness and cook a pizza at home.
I went on YouTube and put up a search.
The video started. As I followed along, the creator mentioned,
“To nail this pizza, you should check out my previous video on making the perfect tomato sauce.”
“Yeah, I need tomato sauce,” I said and went to see that video.
Towards the end, the creator said, “But hold on, we can’t forget about the cheese. To truly make this pizza heaven, watch my video on cheese choices.”
I was about to click on that video.
All this while, I was just lying on my bed.
No cooking was happening as I wasted an hour, listening to his favorite cheese choices.
How often has this happened to you?
You see, the internet is an ocean of information, sometimes helpful but mostly throwing useless recommendations at you to bait your attention. And,
It’s scary how personalized these recommendations have become
When Instagram recommends what my friend has liked, I watch that video to understand why she likes it.
The recommendations on social platforms have become super personalized.
Your favorite creator, your favorite singer, all of it, is at your fingertips, to keep you glued to the screens.
And on top of it, your every click, like, and share is being tracked. The bots know, what you watch, what you read, and what you buy.
In reality, you and I are stuck in a multiverse with the best content from the world, such as the best jokes, memes, music, cute cat videos, valuable tutorials, and whatnot.
But wait! Someone is enjoying this loop, Yeah!
The Creators Are Reaping Profits
One thing that amazes me about content is how it stays forever on the internet. You create a piece today and it will just stay. A song, a video, a blog, anything, you name it.
Those who successfully cracked the code of the content, back in the time, are printing money today.
Youtubers who began 5 years ago, have a million subscribers today. Writers who began 3 years ago are making 7 figures today (who knows if it’s the truth)
Maybe! They understood the assignment.
But buddy,
You And I Are Paying The Price
Once we interact with a video or a meme, we feed the algorithms. With these algos, Bots record our habits, interests, and our preferences.
And these algorithms are no less than your toxic ex.
They are planning to backstab you, by grabbing your attention with their personalized recommendations. Their goal is to steal your focus by using your own secrets and keep you hooked.
And you pay the price with your time and attention.
Then what do to about it? Break the loop?
Well! That’s in your hand.
You decide.
How? We’ll cover this in the next post.Byii.
It’s here !!
