Why Zilliqa mining is the future

Zilliqa is a promising project out of South Korea, that has the potential to be one of the most dominant, widely-used cryptocurrencies. Its blockchain platform boasts of high throughput capabilities via a process known as sharding. With this method, an impressive 2800 transactions per second can be processed, which is several times more than Bitcoin or even Ethereum. Zilliqa takes an innovative approach to mining by utilizing the Proof of Work (PoW) mechanism, in addition to a Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerant (pBFT) protocol. Their methodology translates into greater rewards, since performing one PoW can write multiple blocks to the chain.

Why mine with Zilliqa?

There are a number of reasons why you would want to consider mining with Zilliqa. For one, it is a more energy efficient way to mine when compared to other PoW based blockchains. Approximately 12 hours of PoW collectively is required every month. For some relatively small intervals, the graphics card will be engaged, and for the rest of the time it will be idle. This form of mining is a lot more environmentally friendly than conventional methods, and also significantly reduces the electricity bill.

The mining network is segmented into multiple consensus groups, with each of them able to process transactions simultaneously. As the network grows, sharding allows for the cost per transaction to maintain a steady value. With conventional blockchains like Bitcoin or Ethereum, the cost per transaction gets more expensive as the network expands.

With other blockchain platforms, miners will usually give precedence to the transactions with the higher fees due to limited throughput. But Zilliqa’s model actually incentivizes the amount of transactions processed. This will allow for individual transaction fees to be reduced, while still providing great compensation to the miners through the aggregated fees.

How do I get started ?

So, you want to capitalize on these awesome benefits and begin mining Zilliqa, but don’t know exactly how to proceed? Well Zil Farm is a great place to start. This increasingly popular mining pool, boasts of an extensive feature set that most miners would appreciate. Some of these include: anonymous mining, high powered servers, accurate hash rate reporting and exceptional customer support. Check out the Mining FAQ below for more detailed information.

Shardpool.io’s FAQ for Mining

Q: What Miner do I use to mine Zilliqa?
A: Zilminer. You can find it here.

Q: How much do I get per accepted share?
A: Zil Farm’s current rate right now is 30 Zilliqa per share. This has the potential to increase as we are currently working on upgrades for the platform. Stay tuned for future announcements through our Twitter, Facebook, and Medium accounts.

Q: How Do I connect to the pool?
A: Firstly, create a Zilliqa Wallet using MoonLet, an official Zilliqa Wallet.
Download the newest version and extract it to a folder you choose. Create a bat file where zilminer.exe is located. Below are two examples of what should be in the bat file.

Example 1:
zilminer — farm-recheck=10000 — max-submit=1 — work-timeout=14400 —
farm-retries=99 — retry-delay=990 -P zil://[registered
address].[worker name]@shardpool.io:5000/api

Example 2:
zilminer — farm-recheck=10000 — max-submit=1 — work-timeout=14400 — farm-retries=99 — retry-delay=990 -P zil://0x19036f70226309A91B2F541148D4C73e6983eE29.miner@shardpool.io:5000/api

Q: Why Do I see 0.00 Mhs on my miner? Is my miner not working?

A: Although Zilliqa uses the Ethash algorithm, mining it is very different from most other popular blockchain projects. We mine Zilliqa for exactly 1 minute every 2–3 hours (or every epoch). The rest of time, it remains idle.

Q: Why Only one Minute?
A: Zilliqa uses Practical Byzantine Fault Tolerance (PBFT) for their consensus. If you would like to find out more, check out their medium article.

Q: If I mine every 2–3 hours for only 1 minute, what do I do with that extra time?
A: Since your graphics cards are not under constant stress, you get to conserve electricity by not mining around the clock.

Q: I still find it is a waste of time, can I mine another coin?
A: Yes, you can, dual mining is encouraged. Dual Mining may be different from what you think it is, as explained in our next point.

Q: What is Dual Mining?
A: Dual mining allows you to mine your other coins until the epoch time comes around. For example, you can mine ETH, and when the time comes to mine Zilliqa, Zilminer would shutdown your ETH miner to ensure it has full attention of your graphics cards. Then, Zilliqa will be mined for the 1-minute interval, after which your ETH Miner will be restarted. Think of Zilliqa mining as a way to make extra cash while consuming the same amount of time and electricity you would regularly do.

Q: How do I Dual Mine?
A: There is a guide on our github page titled “Dual Mining” that you can follow.

Q: I can’t get Dual Mining to work, what should I do?
A: If you need assistance, we are glad to help you, please contact Kid on telegram https://t.me/kidkid1 for further assistance. Our support is always ready and willing to help you.

Q: I am on hiveos, how do I dual Mine?
A: We have a solution for that also but this requires you to contact Kid on
telegram https://t.me/kidkid1 for assistance. Please don’t be shy.

Q: I do not get any accepted shares?
A: We suggest you increase your farm recheck in your bat file. Farm Recheck is how long it takes for your miner to work on one job. Increasing this allows you to work longer on that job giving you more of a chance to get that share. Zilminer is very new to all of us but there are some tweaks that can be made to help miners.

Q: Do you have a facebook page?
A: Yes, we’re always active in our Facebook page.

Q: Do you have a twitter page?
A: Yes, here’s our Twitter page.

Q: Do you have a medium page?
A: Yes, check out our Medium.

Q: Do you have any new features coming up?
A: We sure do. Join us on Twitter, Facebook and Medium for new announcements.

Q: I have a suggestion and a request, who do I contact?
A: We believe in the best customer support possible. Contact Kid on Telegram for any information you require.
