Traffic Experiment: What Happened When I Left a Medium Publication.

Lesson learned from trying to remove Medium stories from well-known publications to move it to my own (datascale). 😅

Initially, I thought it wouldn’t have much impact because the traffic mostly comes from direct Google search anyway.

... But

it turned out that the traffic disappeared, from ~4K down to just 1K. 📉

So, I thought it’s better to go back to that publication for now; I moved it in early August, and the traffic has gone up to 2.5K. 👏

Key takeaways

Even if my posts have published long time ago, relocating posts whether in or out of a publication can also have significantly impact their reach and traffic. Additionally, well-known publications may also influence the SEO.

// Views might not be high ’cause I haven’t been writing much lately. I’m trying to share more often!

I’m usually write about software system, data+ai, and my SaaS startup journey (as I’m building my Datascale SaaS product, a collaborative SQL workspace to help auto-create data catalog and model data relationships from SQLs).
