In Middle East and Asia Pacific, a biotechnology is technology that utilizes biological systems, living organisms or parts of this to develop or create different products. Biotechnology refers to the use of biological substances or microorganisms to develop novel products of therapeutic, agricultural, or industrial interest to improve the quality of human life. It is also used to study and to alter genetic information in animals so that human diseases can be modeled and studied. Today, the five branches into which modern biotechnology is divided, such as environmental, industrial, human, animal, and plant, help people worldwide fight hunger and disease, produce more cleanly, safely, and efficiently, reducing ecological footprint and saving energy.

Middle East and Asia Pacific Biotechnology is a broad field that deals with the use of living organisms to create products that are beneficial to long-term development. The advent of biotechnology has brought a new wave of personal liberties, but a field has raised several controversial issues. For example, the use of government programs to manipulate human genetics threatens procreative liberties and privacy. It also raises concerns about discrimination. Moreover, life-sustaining systems may be used to kill humans, challenging their right to die. Bioterrorists may also use the same virus to unleash a new pandemic. Critics of biotechnologies often advocate precautionary principle, which argues that all biotechnologies are risky until proven safe.

In agriculture, Middle East and Asia Pacific Biotechnology is employed to protect crops from devastating diseases and pests. Worldwide, millions of farmers use agricultural biotechnology to increase yields, reduce crop damage, and improve soil health. Apart from these health benefits, biotechnology is also being used to reduce the environmental impact of farming. Agricultural biotechnology is an area of agricultural science involving the use of scientific tools/techniques to modify living organisms: plants, animals, and microorganisms. Biotechnology provides farmers with tools that can make production cheaper and more manageable. Some crops can be engineered to tolerate specific herbicides, which make weed control simpler and more efficient.

Biotechnology has improved the food quality, quantity, and processing. Middle East and Asia Pacific Biotechnology has also revolutionized manufacturing and can even be used to produce chemicals. Its implications are many and varied, but its benefits are clear. Biotechnology helps the pharmaceutical industry to develop new products, processes, methods, and services, as well as to improve existing ones. It is a relatively new and growing field in which the principles of biotechnology are applied to the development of drugs. A majority of therapeutic drugs in the market are bio-formulations, such as vaccines, antibodies, and nucleic acid products. Modern biotechnology can be used to manufacture drugs more easily and cheaply.

Biotechnology has a number of applications that are concerned with human welfare such as it helps to reduce infectious disease rates, save millions of lives, minimize health risks and side effects, develop more precise disease detection tools, and help combat serious diseases. It is an interdisciplinary, innovative field that uses biological systems, living organisms, or derivatives to develop or modify processes and outcomes to produce healthcare products and therapeutics. Biotechnology has profound impact on different sectors such as pharmaceuticals & medicine, genomics, and production of food and chemicals.
