Residue Hydro Desulfurization Catalyst

The residue hydro desulfurization catalyst is a promising catalyst for the reduction of sulfur in oil. This process reduces the amount of sulfur in the fuel by several cycles. This type of catalyst is gaining more importance in developing countries like India. It is a highly efficient tool for reducing sulfur in the oil industry. For instance, in March 2021, S-Oil, a major petroleum refinery in South Korea, completed the expansion of its Ulsan petrochemical plant by infusing around US$ 64.9 million to increase its residue hydro-desulfurization capacity with the development of a vapor combustion unit.

The residue hydro desulfurization catalyst is used for the desulfurization of petroleum coke and cooker gas oil. Its application varies widely. Researchers have examined the performance of the catalyst for the desulfurization of petroleum coke and other oily substances. The residue hydro desulfurization catalyst is found to be highly effective in removing sulfur from the mixture. This catalyst is highly suitable for the desulfurization of sour gas.

To assess the effectiveness of the residue hydro desulfurization catalyst, X-ray absorption spectra were collected. The DBT feedstock had a sulfur concentration of nine ppm, and its initial concentration is 3000 ppm. The catalyst is heated by a furnace, and cooling water flows through a heat exchanger. The temperature of the cooling jacket was controlled so that light components would not be vaporized. A full factorial design was used to determine the most effective operating conditions.

Axens and China Petrochemical Corporation are the two major manufacturers of residue hydro desulfurization catalysts. Both companies have global operations and diversified product portfolios. Both companies have forward-integrated business strategies, thus gaining economies of scale. Further, the China-based Axens is also a leading manufacturer of hydro desulfurization catalysts. The hydro desulfurization catalyst is characterized by the presence of sulfur and hydrogen at the edges. The residue hydro desulfurization catalyst is an excellent catalyst for de-sulfurizing fuel, reducing the amount of sulfur in the fuel.
