T-Cell Lymphoma

One of the rarest forms of T-cell lymphoma, called angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (ATL), develops in the lining of the intestine, blood, and skin. This rare disease often develops due to an ongoing immune response or from a latent viral infection. Symptoms may include fever, itching, skin rashes, and night sweats. Patients with AITL may also develop autoimmune disorders, such as immune thrombocytopenia, when the immune system attacks red blood cells.

A new therapy for T-cell Lymphoma is gaining traction. Developed by young biotech spun out of University College London, Autolus reprograms T-cells to kill cancerous ones. The therapy’s strategy was detailed in a recent Nature study. Despite the fact that autologous therapy is still in the lab, this groundbreaking therapy has already shown impressive results in mice.

While T-cell lymphoma has long been treated by chemotherapy, a new therapy for this disease has opened the door for immunotherapy. SCVFs are single-chain variable fragments that target a specific surface marker on T-cell cancers.iCell has first-mover technology in this area and has an impressive patent portfolio. Its CD4-targeted CAR is a leading therapeutic in this class.

In February 2022, Genmab and AbbVie announced the results of their Phase II trials on Epcoritamab (DuoBody®-CD3xCD20) in Japan, concluding that common Grade 3 treatment was more effective in treating patients with T-cell Lymphoma. This phase I multicenter, open-label trial is being conducted to determine the safety and tolerability of the agent. It will also assess its potential to treat relapsed or refractory T-cell lymphoma.

The two most common subtypes of T-cell lymphoma are cutaneous T-cell lymphoma and peripheral T-cell lymphoma. Both of these subtypes cause skin involvement and account for around two percent of all cases. Although PTCL-A tends to grow slowly, the chronic type grows faster than the acute one. It can also lead to serious night sweats and unexplained weight loss.

T-cell lymphoma is an aggressive type of lymphoma. It can arise in lymph nodes or non-lymphoid tissues. It is similar to acute lymphoblastic leukemia and involves bone marrow more than other types of lymphoma. Treatment is similar to that of acute leukemia. In some cases, T-cell lymphoma is asymptomatic.
