Wireless Connected Devices Are Widely Being Adopted Across The Globe As The World Enters The Era Of Advanced Technology

Wireless Connected Devices

Various companies are shifting towards advancing technology to improve their position in the global wireless connected devices market. Smart devices are gaining popularity worldwide due to their portability, connectivity, and ease of use. For example, smart home devices can control household security systems, monitor household air quality, and remotely control appliances and devices. These devices are anticipated to boost the overall adoption of wirelessly connected devices.

According to the BSRIA, the number of connected devices in commercial buildings is estimated to reach 150–200 million by 2019. The majority of these devices are short-range low-power technologies, such as Bluetooth and Zigbee. Their typical applications include sensors, lighting, and video surveillance. The study found that approximately 50 million commercial buildings worldwide will be equipped with WiFi and other types of network-based connected devices by the end of 2019. Low-powered wide-area technologies, on the other hand, are still limited in commercial buildings. These technologies are used for smart metering, supply chain tracking, security, livestock monitoring, and smart parking.

IoT devices are a critical component of the Internet of Things. They are able to track and monitor millions of other devices through a single network. Some of these devices are simple sensors and actuators that perform a variety of functions. Some can geo-fence themselves and track their movements. Continuous monitoring of products has proven its value in cold-chain logistics. However, newer applications are likely to rely on high bandwidth and low-latency connections.

There are some potential security risks related to wireless connectivity. Despite widespread adoption of wireless connected devices, there are still a number of ways to protect users of wireless connected devices from intruders. Nearby items can affect a wireless connectivity. Microwaves and cordless phones may interfere with the wireless signal. As they operate at the same frequency, they may interfere with the signal of wireless router. This problem can be countered by moving the cordless phone to a different location or frequency. Wireless routers should be placed in the closest proximity to a wireless devices. In June 2021, Intel launched two 11th generation core processors featuring integrated Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E capabilities.
