Diversity & Inclusion: Beyond Mandatory Training — Dancing in the Office of Authenticity
Diversity and Inclusion… what is it? For some, it’s one of those mandatory training courses that you have to sit through for 20-minutes every year, allowing your employer to prove they are an inclusive workplace. You flick through as quickly as possible thinking to yourself “I’m a pretty decent human. I have a mix of men and women and I have different ethnic groups too, so we have diversity. I’m all good with this.” I have been one of those people. I have skipped through slides just trying to get through it so I can get back to my work, taking in just enough so I can pass the test at the end.
For other people, it is a battle they face or, at the very least, something that makes it harder for them to meet their potential.
I have a 9-year-old son. He is a truly wonderful, bright and vibrant boy. He is energetic, happy and has a fantastic sense of humour. He absolutely adores me. He has a few close friends who he is fiercely loyal to. He is doing well in school, excelling at maths and ICT in particular. My son is wonderfully autistic.
