One of the most positive developments in the modern world is the recognition of employee wellbeing, and it’s importance. Businesses are aware that not only are there clear productivity benefits by having good standards of wellbeing across their workforce but also that there is an imperative moral duty to ensure this.

Of course, even the most well-prepared of businesses would not have been expecting to have to deal with something on the scale of Covid-19. Everyone is now scrambling, whether they are operating in the entertainment, recreation, or hospitality sector. …

In modern times, there has been a gradual realisation as to the importance of an employee’s workplace environment. With the continued prevalence of this ‘workplace’ being the office (rather than a factory, field or mine), the discussion has often centred around how the office space can be improved, and how to measure the impact that this has on the workers.

The need for a healthy workplace environment

One of the clearest examples of this line of thinking was the workplace transition away from cubicles to a more open-plan layout. …

Last weekend was Pride in London to celebrate and support the LGBT+ community. At Pop & Rest, we believe diversity in both our communities and in the workplace is of vital importance. It offers us a chance to create a culture that opens people’s minds, whilst bringing a lot of positivity.

This lockdown has been tough on many of us. People have lost their jobs, been separated from their families and loved ones and have, in some unfortunate cases, lost someone dear to them. Some groups have been more affected than others. For example, this unprecedented crisis has had a…

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week. I wrote a post on Wednesday about kindness, as it’s this year’s theme. Link: https://medium.com/@popnrest/and-kindness-lessons-from-the-dalai-lama-9bc7ba439ee2

As Pop & Rest advocates good sleeping practices, and the necessity of creating the right environment for people’s wellbeing (you know, our pods) I decided to write about the link between our mental health and sleep, and what you can do to improve it during this difficult time.

Disconnect

Well, this is pretty straightforward. How do you feel after spending 8 to 9 hours of looking at spreadsheets, emails, attending (too many) Zoom calls, and then sending text messages…

The theme of this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week is kindness. I have learnt a lot about kindness from reading the Dalai Lama’s book ‘Compassion’. I read this book when I was in a transition period of change in my life, about the same time as when we were struggling to take Pop & Rest off the ground.

It starts with reaching happiness

At the beginning of the book Compassion, the Dalai Lama introduces the idea that the purpose of life is to be happy. I kind of agree with this, even though it may sound like an “obvious” or “simplistic” answer. Then he explains…

It is now obvious that one of the sectors that will have to adapt quite dramatically is the office space sector. Lately, I have read many articles related to new space layouts, cleaning products, the economic impact on traditional versus flexible space, and the recurrent question “how many employees will continue to embrace working from home?”.

First, let me try to answer this question. According to a poll I ran on a Facebook group (oriented towards startups and self-entrepreneurs), nearly 65% of respondents said they would prefer to work from home after the lockdown. Then, The Telegraph published on the…

Wow, what a year it has been for Pop & Rest! With so much on, it’s all flown by… 2019 was a great year to be a wellness startup, with more and more people beginning to recognise the importance of looking after themselves, especially in the context of their work/life balance. So, deep breath, here we go with our year in review…

Our mission is catching on in the wider world too, and 2019 saw us featured in Forbes, the BBC and Financial Times. One of the major milestones achieved this year was reaching over 2,200 paid bookings.

This number…

The Christmas season is just ahead of us. This is the most festive time of the year, from office christmas parties (read our latest post) to dinners with family & friends, and winter holidays.

But is Christmas a relaxing period?

As we approach the shortest and coldest days of the year, our body gets less natural light and Vitamin D, which in turn has an impact on our circadian rhythm. If you are not familiar with circadian rhythm, allow me to explain:

Circadian rhythms are physical, mental and behavioral changes in the body that can influence hormone release and other…

Wednesday night, Thursday night, and Friday night… You may not believe me but I just completed a week of Christmas drinks parties! It is no exaggeration to say that, as I write this post, I feel super tired.

My energy is at its lowest level, but the number of upcoming meetings and projects to deliver still remain high. This is the typical pre-Christmas period where we try to get everything finished before the holidays, all whilst having shorter nights of sleep and feeling hungover. …
