Explaining “The Why” vs. “The How”

This is probably one of the easiest way for me to delineate leaders vs. managers. I’ve learned a ton leading Dagger from three people to 26 over the last 2+ years. But this is probably the one piece of advice I would give to people who want to lead other people:

Consistently and Authentically Explain “The Why”

As a leader, you want your team both motivated and empowered. Communicating why they are climbing a mountain gives people a purpose. Smart people can often figure out the best way how to complete the climb, and often times they relish in charting their own path up the mountain. Think more about communicating purpose, not plans. Plans should be shared too, but great leaders know how to explain why.
