This was I taken over one year ago. I was always tired, sick, and obese. I was about 220 pounds. When I got over 200 pounds I told myself “That’s it I’m going to lose weight” but I lied. I said the same thing 2 more times when I hit 210 and 220.

Then one day I got on the scale at the gym and then I said

“HOLY SHIT 233 POUNDS!”

I knew something had to give. It was at that very moment that I told myself that I would change my lifestyle drop all this body fat that I was carrying (which was a lot).

Before I tell you guys what I did to be 180, let me explain my everyday normal routine that would lead me to be at 233 pounds.

  • Wake up go to work and not eat any breakfast
  • Go to a fast food place for lunch
  • Get home and then head to the gym
  • Then eat another fast food meal for dinner
  • Rinse and repeat for years and years

You see I loved working out, but hated eating healthy foods. The best reward for a hard workout was a cheeseburger with fries. I hated how I looked and felt, but I loved eating the junk meals more. I knew I was fat, but I simply did not care enough to change my bad habits.

That was until I weighed 233 pounds. At that very moment, I made a promise to myself that I will drop all this fat once and for all. I will write down what I did that worked for me that possibly might work for you. Just a heads up I am not a medical expert or a personal trainer, but I do have years of experience in training.

  1. Make a Decision and Promise

This is the most important tip that I suggest. If you truly decide that you want to lose weight, YOU WILL DO IT. Once you made that decision, make a promise to yourself and KEEP IT. Many people want to lose weight, but not many want to work hard for it. When I finally decided to drop the fat, I made sure to make a promise myself and be a man of my word.

You see I believe people have low self-esteem is because many people do not make a true decision on their health and they basically lie to themselves.

How do you feel when someone lies to you?

Exactly! No one likes liars. So stop lying to yourself.

  1. Choose a diet and stick to it

I decided that I would stick to a high protein, low fat, and low carb diet. The reason being is that a high protein intake will help me build and retain muscle. This is important to me because I wanted to lose fat and not just weight. Being on a low carb diet helped me drop the faster than “normal” because my body would have to use fat for energy instead of the carbs.

This diet worked great for me because it fit my goals and lifestyle. You need to choose a diet that will also fit your goals and lifestyle. But remember it will only work if you stick to it.

  1. Have a “Cheat” Day

It is technically not a “cheat” day because it was part of your diet plan. Having a cheat is very important because it helps you keep your sanity (very important lol) and it makes it easier to stick to your diet. When I have food cravings throughout the week, I just tell myself that I will eat it on Saturday.

Another reason why having a cheat day is important is because you can still go out and eat whatever you want with your family and friends. Eating is a social event. You should not have to sacrifice your time with family and friends because of a diet. Because of this, choose a cheat day that works best for you. For me, it was Saturday because that is when I go out to restaurants with my friends and family.

  1. Pick a Fun Workout Plan

To be honest and to be clear you do not need to workout to lose weight. I repeat. You DO NOT need to workout to lose weight.

However, I strongly advise that you do workout because it really speeds up the process of losing weight.

Wouldn’t you rather lose 10 pounds of fat in 4–5 weeks or in 10–11 weeks?

Working out speeds up metabolism, which means your body will burn calories much faster.

That is why I suggest that you pick a fun workout that you will stick to. It can be many things. It can be:

  • Running
  • Lifting weights
  • Zumba
  • Walking
  • Yoga
  • Boxing
  • Kickboxing (my favorite)
  • Martial Arts
  • Dancing
  • Pretty much anything that gets your body moving

The goal here is to pick one that is fun for you. This also gives you an opportunity to learn something new such as a martial art. Whichever workout you choose; make sure it is one that you will have fun and stick to.

  1. Eat Small Meals Throughout the Day

This is a strategy that worked wonders for me. I ate (and still do) 4–5 small meals. I made sure to have a meal every 3–4 hours. This helps curve hunger and cravings. Having small meals also decreases the chance of having one huge dinner that could ruin your day’s work.

Another reason for eating small meals throughout the day is because it keeps your metabolism running at full speed. This is important if you want to lose fat fast.

  1. Think Long-Term

What I mean by this is that losing weight is a long process. If you have 50 pounds of weight you want to lose, you will not accomplish this in 3 weeks. Thinking this way will crush your dreams and goal of losing all that fat. Thinking long-term is important because it gives you realistic weight loss goals in a reasonable amount of time.

You should also think long-term when choosing a diet and workout plan. You want to make sure that you can stick to these programs for months (and for some years).

  1. Enjoy the Process

HAVE FUN!! I know I did while I was on my journey to losing weight. That does not mean that you will have any setbacks or pitfalls, but overall you should be full of joy. You should be delighted that you are finally on the road to get healthier once and for all. Any setbacks you experience should give you another opportunity to learn about yourself. Not to mention by enjoying the process you lower your stress levels. Also enjoy the compliments you get from family, friends, and strangers about how amazing you look while you are losing weight because you earned them.

A Quick Recap

I was able to lose fat and build muscle pretty quickly. I followed the exact 7 tips that I wrote. Losing weight is more than just physical, it is also mental (which is the point of number 1,6, and 7). Having the mind and body in sync is significant for weight loss success.

Now, these tips are what helped me lose the fat and keep it off. They may or may not work for you, but you should definitely give them a shot.
