Brief instructions from the wiser warrior within guarding my time…
There is nothing more precious to me than time.
But, I find most productivity and time management systems boring.
I need to make this process more fun and meaningful.
Here’s my best attempt so far…
I am playing a game in real time, all of the time.
My most important job is being a fierce Samurai, who is the full time guardian of my time.
Want to take a stab at being a Time Samurai also?
Follow me as I walk you through what I do.
Your first task is to be aware and…
Watch out for TIME BANDITS!
Identify who steals your time… which sites and apps suck your attention away most often.
Name them to tame them!
Then, study your enemy. Know how they hook you in and keep you distracted from what matters far more.
Be vigilant of when they are around.
When you spot one…
Take your power back, right away!
When you have been hijacked, do the following — without hesitation:
1. CLOSE YOUR EYES.
To instantly tune them out.
2. HALF SMILE.
Show them you are confident and that they cannot take your joy away.
3. Take a DEEP BREATH…
4. Ask yourself, matter of factly,
“Who’s the boss of me and my time?”
5. JAIL the BANDIT
Put the phone down. Yes, out of reach. Like giving a bad sports player a penalty time out. Show them who’s boss!
Celebrate with pride!
Then — not if, but WHEN — you get sucked into somebody else’s drama (at the office, a friend’s or in the news), tell yourself this Polish proverb,
“Not my monkeys, not my circus!”
By asking the same potent question. THE only question:
What is more worthy of my precious time alive on this earth?
JUST DO IT —
THE MORE IMPORTANT THING —
FOR A ‘LIL BIT —
The answer to your question…
DO that next.
Even for only a minute. Every second you do something more meaningful, satisfying, you are weakening the hold time bandits will ever have on you.
CELEBRATE the effort needed to guard your time and use it well.
…when you find yourself turning into a Screen Zombie
— AGAIN —
Perhaps for the 17th time today!
Prompt yourself by saying out loud with pride and zeal,
Wake Up Warrior!
Then, hit your body’s RE-SET button.
INTERRUPT all thinking and jump into cardio and strength training.
Push ups, burpees, jumping jacks, running in place…
ANYTHING which jolts you out of your weak mind and makes your body stronger and makes your feel more ALIVE works!
Decide now what you will do now and JUST DO THAT when it’s time.
NEVER STOP TRAINING.
And in with that in mind, the best thing to do as you read the last few words I leave you with today is to take ONE breath in or out for every word you read below…
