Agenda, Agendum . . .

Agenda, agendum . . . what’s the difference?

First thing I learned, agendum means one.

One “something” that is to be done; an item on an agenda. Agenda being the plural form actually means a list of items to be done.

I have both.

An agendum, that one “something” to be done, an action. I set my agendum daily. Naturally, most of us want to accomplish more than one thing in a day, but in general, I’m talking about the biggie, “a most important item of the day.”

I also have an agenda. “A list” of what I’m working on and toward over a period of time. In my mind, my agendum feeds my agenda.

Sounds a lot like goals? Sure, I agree.

I like the terms agenda and agendum because they speak to me more than the word goals. The crucial part is having them and doing them.

Additionally, I have intentions and objectives.

To zoom in on these, I’ll explain:

Intentions are defined as acts or instances of determining mentally upon some action or result.

I think of this as more of “the way” I choose to do things. One of my intention is to have “spiritual to all contact.” Meaning that everything I do has an overriding intention of benefiting each person involved.

Objectives are defined as something that one’s efforts or actions are intended to attain or accomplish. In other words, the object of all my efforts.

I think of my objectives in terms of “in the long run.” My widest reaching and loftiest marks, which gives my agenda a place to focus.

To sum up…

My agendum feeds my overall agenda, these are daily and periodic actions. I live and work with certain guiding intentions and my objectives are the ultimate results I want to achieve.

Occasionally, I look over the entire plan and adjust accordingly. A plan that never ebbs and flows as time goes along couldn’t possibly be effective.

I’ve picked this structure as a way to keep me organized and focused. It’s personalized to me, my ideals, and my methods.

I’m not suggesting that you adopt my plan, however, I am absolutely suggesting that you put thought into your own.

Call it what you like, shape it, form it, twist it into the best way of keeping yourself on track. It’s for you, nobody else.

There are a thousand strategies for personal effectiveness and a million articles, read a few to generate ideas.

Keep in mind, when you make it personal and when you get to a place where you rely on your method and your method relies on you, then you’ve found the method with the whole shebang.

Agenda, agendum… What’s the difference?
