I see more passing reference to ambient lighting to be a bad thing, but I rarely see articles covering why that is a bad thing. Maybe I am mistaken, but I thought one of the benefits of detecting ambient lighting was that you could update your theme to work better in an environment that was too bright, or to automatically turn on a “night mode.”
I can understand GPS location, push notifications, and microphone / camera, but to enable light/dark modes I feel like most users won’t discover this feature and thus it will not be too useful to them. We’re talking about making the site’s design more visible to them at that point.
Or are people talking about using something besides the Ambient Light Sensor specification when they discuss this issue and I’ve just totally misunderstood what people are talking about?
Sorry if I am making too much about a single part of a sentence near the end. In general I do agree with the main topic here.
