I’m up to something…
“So, what exactly do you do?”- is a question I get asked all the time. And I’m never really quite sure how to answer it. You see, my life up to this point is a culmination of many failed endeavors, lots trial and error, and some naiveté…who am I kidding, a lot of naiveté.
That willingness and openness have blessed me with many life lessons and many opportunities. From Chicago to San Francisco, and now New York; I’ve been able to live and work in some of the best places in the world, with some of the best people in the world. And after some thought, I’ve come to one conclusion. I’ve been a serial dabbler. Jumping from this to that but never truly committing to anything. And it wasn’t until recently that I’ve been able to realize this. You see, deep down, I convinced myself that if things didn’t work out, it was okay since I was never 100% committed anyways. Looking back, it was my lack of self awareness and my ego that attributed to that mindset.
As far as I can remember, I have always been plotting and scheming of ways to make money; most of the time with my little brother, Saso. Anything we could come up with or get our hands on, we’d take a stab at. Most (all) of the time, we had no idea what we were doing, but we didn’t let that stop us.
Just to give you a rundown of some of the things we did:
- Buying and selling Pokemon cards in middle school
- Throwing parties in high school
- Producing concerts and small scale tours in college
- Building a website and scaling it to 200k+ monthly visitors
- Opening up a bar in Michigan and operating it for 1.5 years
I promise you I’m not humble bragging. There really isn’t much to humbly brag about. Then why am I telling you all of this? Because I’m up to something (DJ Khaled voice). For the last year, I’ve been throwing around an idea with my brother. We’ve spent a lot of time talking, planning, and strategizing and no time actually doing. Well, that’s all about to change.
Unfortunately, I can’t tell you exactly what we’re up to…right now. What I can say is that I’m going to be using Medium as a place to share with you what it’s really like to start a business.
In the coming weeks, I’ll be releasing various articles on what we’re working on, our progress as we try to bring a product to market, the highs and lows of starting a business, and interviews with some very cool and even smarter people.
So I welcome you to follow along on this journey with me. If you enjoyed this article, please share it :)
Until next time!
