The Radical Virtual World of Tomorrow.

A virtual world (also called a virtual space) is a computer-simulated environment which may be populated by many users who can create a personal avatar, and simultaneously and independently explore the virtual world, participate in its activities and communicate with others.

In virtual as that which is opposed to actual, but not opposed to real, meaning that the virtual is real, or at least our perception of it. In other words, in the virtual world you have no real identity or physical interaction, whereas in the real world you do.

Users interact with each other in this simulated world using two-dimensional or three-dimensional graphical models called avatars. Avatars are graphically exhibited using computer graphics imaging (CGI) or any other display technology. With the advancement in graphics offering technologies, graphical models called avatars became the symbol of virtual worlds. Today’s avatars that populate virtual worlds are interactive icons that exist in realistic virtual worlds and virtual worlds depict a world very similar to reality. Individuals control their avatars using input devices like the keyboard, mouse and other specially designed gadgets. Today’s virtual worlds are purpose-built for entertainment, social and other purposes.

As of today, there are two types of virtual worlds:

  • Entertainment-Based: Online games in which a large number of players interact within a virtual world. In this category of virtual worlds, users play games through their avatars and designed for collaborative work. These virtual worlds are strongly influenced by fantasy and science fiction.
  • Social Networking-Based: These virtual worlds are more open-ended such as socializing with communities, taking part in political debates, attending educational sessions, etc. Although not so developed as gaming worlds, these social virtual worlds are quickly gaining popularity, particularly in educational and political fields.

Virtual worlds may increasingly function as centers of commerce, trade, education and business and the future of living in a Virtual World can be anything we want it to be. Virtual worlds presents many opportunities but also challenges and the following are the possible application domains with meaningful implementations that could come next in an increasingly virtualized world:-

· Gaming — More realistic, immersive another world in naturalistic environment with millions of players

· Tourism — The Virtual World can transport you to a location thousands of miles away without leaving your house and allowing you to look, feel and act.

· Exploration — It is possible to explore outer space like Planets, Galaxies, etc. created in the explorers or designers mind, all without the physical limitations of the real world.

· Training People — Providing a new way to experience things including stressful conditions.

· Workplaces — A virtual Office allows people to collaborate, confer and discuss, without leaving their homes and with an unlimited supply of meeting rooms or environments.

· Educational Spaces — Enriching the learning experience becoming increasingly remote and immersive with unlimited number of students and live lectures of famous academics.

· Cultural Performances — You could select a private show for you and friends or be loaded into a crowd of thousands. In this way, virtual cultural experiences could become remarkably immersive and interactive.

· Social World — Millions of people can socialize with others around the world, allowing users to virtually transmit themselves from one engagement or environment to the next at the touch of a button.

· Virtual Exercise — A walk in the local park or be able to take a walk through the Amazon, all from the comfort of our homes.

· Health Care — Virtual models for placing surgical incisions to Therapeutic virtual tool for patient rehabilitation or mental health issues.

· Manufacturing Sector — Virtual prototypes from product design to development.

· Virtual Courts — Courts can reconstruct scenarios virtually and present legal hearings in a virtual world without witnesses being present physically.

· E-Commerce — Virtual worlds for sale of goods through virtual interfaces and using virtual or digital currencies.

Virtualized world is likely to be an essential part of our technological future, and will affect in all fields of our work, education and social lives going forward. In the future, we may not need customizable environments instead, we will connect directly to the avatars or virtual models, activating our senses in order to create new worlds that are virtually realistic. However, virtualization holds the ultimate promise of allowing people to move themselves to wherever they want to be, and to create a totally immersive experience that places the user in a fully virtual environment that-one feels very realistic. The value of real-world human interaction becomes meaningful and closure to actual interaction with more personalized virtual worlds and digital environments when that appear real to all of our five basic senses.
