Staying at home during the coronavirus pandemic has taken a toll on a lot of us physically and mentally. While our NMGC Heroes are on the frontlines working at grocery stores, medical facilities, or as first responders, it’s the social responsibility of all of our communities to #stayathome and lessen the load of essential personnel as they fight to bring this pandemic to an end.

What is there to do while you’re at home? Whether you’re trying to get a break from working remotely or from seeing the same faces in your household every waking moment, we have a few tips on how to manage your physical and emotional health during this long period of isolation.

Physical Health

There are many fitness studios and companies who are catering to those who need to release stress and get there blood pumping. From yoga to kickboxing, companies are trying to make your time at home productive!

Planet Fitness is streaming several “Home Work-In” sessions via Facebook Live everyday at 4pm PT/5pm MT/6pm CT/7pm ET.

Mental Health

This long period of isolation can affect those who deal with mental health issues daily. Remember to call your therapist or support group if feeling triggered. For those who may be having new feelings and don’t know how to handle them, here are a few ways to cope during this time.

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has resources to help first responders and individuals throughout the community. SAMHSA’s Disaster Distress Helpline provides 24/7, year-round crisis counseling and support to people experiencing emotional distress. The Disaster Distress Helpline is 1-800-985-5990 and those who are hard of hearing can text “TalkWithUs” to 66746.
