9 Months of 5K Announces Launch of Prenatal Vitamins

As stories of women dying during childbirth become more prevalent in news headlines, Houston-based nonprofit 9 Months of 5K hopes to help curb the devastation of maternal mortality through the launch of its new prenatal vitamin.
Dr. Alexia McClerkin, founder of 9 Months of 5K, will launch the new prenatal vitamins on Sept. 22nd, 11 a.m. — 2 p.m. at Bee Fit Foods, a popular healthy prepared foods establishment located at 9555 S. Main St. in Houston.
Many studies in the medical community consistently show the benefits of prenatal vitamins for women planning to conceive.
“During pregnancy, it can be difficult for mothers to keep up with the extra nutrition requirements necessary for themselves and their baby. While supplements don’t completely combat that, they certainly help. We’re excited to launch our prenatal vitamins, which fits the 9 Months of 5K mission of helping women experience easier labor, lowered risks of post-partum depression and mortality, and shorter gaps in achieving a sense of normalcy as a new mom,” said Dr. McClerkin.
Each bottle of the 9 Months of 5K brand of prenatal vitamins contains 60 capsules with each capsule consisting of folic acid, iron, zinc and vitamins B1, B6 AND B12. Folic acid is vital in preventing spina bifida, neural tube defects, heart defects, and cleft palate. Folic acid aids in lowering the risk of preeclampsia. Iron prevents iron-deficiency anemia which in turn lower the risk of pre-term labor, infant mortality and low birth weight.
In addition to being a helpful supplement for women planning to conceive, prenatal vitamins have also gained a reputation for helping to promote hair and nail growth.
