A lot of times clients come to us with a problem in head and a solution in mind. The first thing we do is go out and validate; sometimes we look at things a lot differently as clients than what the users might really want (humans tend to be biased). If the solution is, indeed correct, we must check its viability, check if there is any better way of doing it. In my experience most of the solutions presented before user-research, do not fit as they are. And even if the solution presented was spot on, the detailing of it have to come from the users, that cannot come from the top.
