Physical Therapists Share Their Favorite Success Stories

When it comes to careers that have the opportunity to offer a direct and satisfying impact on the people they serve, physical therapists would probably agree their jobs are the best.

Routinely, patients walk into their office with sometimes debilitating chronic pain and walk out with less pain and a better understanding for how to care for their bodies.

Recently, several professional physical therapists shared a patient success story they were especially proud of.

Harris Hafeez, managing member of Advanced PMR in New Jersey, shared a story about a patient who’d suffered from polio as a young girl and was wheelchair bound and nearly immobilized by incredible back pain.

“We started a plan of action with her that began with acupuncture and manual therapy. Within six months she was moving on crutches and able to lift herself out of her wheelchair. Within nine months she was able to stand almost perfectly,” he said.

Hafeez and his team helped the woman regain strength and confidence. Today, she volunteers with a variety of community outreach programs and has made a huge impact on her community. She’s shared her story with patients who suffer from chronic pain and disabilities, offering them motivation and bringing awareness to physical well-being.

“To this day we keep in touch with her and she visits us often thanking us for giving her a chance to live again,” he said. “It’s hard not to tear up when see how far she’s come along and how wonderful of an impact she’s having on all those she comes in contact with.”
