The Sunk Cost Fallacy

Have you ever walked out after handing in your resignation and wanted to kick yourself?

Not because you made the bad decision to quit. But because you made a stupid mistake staying too long.

We’ve all been there before.

We’ve invested time, energy, and resources into something, only to have it not work out the way we wanted.

Maybe it’s a project at work that doesn’t pan out or a relationship that ends in heartbreak.

Whatever the case, it can be tempting to stay the course simply because we’ve already put so much into it.

In our careers, we often make the mistake of sticking with jobs or projects long after they’ve ceased to benefit us simply because we don’t want to “waste” the time or effort we’ve already put into them.

But if something is no longer serving us, it’s important to let it go and move on to something better.

Don’t let sunk costs keep you tethered to a situation that isn’t working. It’s not worth sacrificing your happiness for something already in the past.
