Yearn For the Endless Sea of Possibilities

“If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up the men to gather wood, divide the work, and give orders. Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea.” — Antoine de Saint-Exupery, author of The Little Prince.

When it comes to career advice, this quote resonates with me.

Too often, we get caught up in the day-to-day grind of our jobs and forget to focus on the bigger picture.

We become so focused on completing our to-do lists and meeting deadlines that we lose sight of our ultimate career goals.

But to truly grow our careers, we must do more than go through the motions.

We need to invest in our career capital: the bank of valuable skills, experiences, and relationships that we can draw upon throughout our careers.

Only by building up our career capital can we achieve long-term career growth.

So, next time you’re stuck in a rut, take a step back and remind yourself of the vast and endless sea of career possibilities that lie before you.

Then, start investing in your career capital so that you can begin charting a course towards your ultimate goal.
