She was limping her way through to the washroom.

Her torn veil was strewn around in the room. The night before was the first night after her marriage to a boy two years older. Having been married off at 16, her family and the village panchayat were already unhappy with the late marriage. However the wedding seemed to have drowned the disapproved whispers of the villagers. Set in an open courtyard in the village, wedding had a backdrop that included majestic mountains and the clouds were particularly dark on this auspicious day.
The bride was anxious and terrified and so full of fear thanks to all the events happening in her life. First, the whispers and the mocking by the villagers that her marriage was so late, secondly her dreams of doing further studies drowned and thirdly, her repeated anxiety of how she would be treated by her spouse once she is married.
Marital rape and child marriage is the culture followed here and she didn’t know that marital rape and child marriage was/is abnormal because she was not aware of the existence of such "cultural practices". But she knew that something was not right. After all, her quick learning skills at school was always appreciated for a good reason of her being a child prodigy and extra intelligent compared to her peers.
